Ergo Session & Inspiration
After having a few days feeling a bit ordinary with a head cold I jumped back on the ergo last night and this morning and boy did a feel a bit out of sorts. So I figured that the best way to approach it would be to get stuck into the drive phase and wake the old body up. So last night I kept the work load to a manageable amount by doing 5min efforts with 1min rest at rating 20. I kept the fan on setting 10 to get some load back in to my body. Nothing like getting back on the horse I say. During this I watch some footage of a few different events and enjoyed the simple pleasure of get excited about racing again. The light weight and heavy weight doubles, both guys and girls from 2003 was my choice. As I watched I found myself getting in the the dynamic nature of what the various crew were showing. A favorite of mine is the French heavy double they are so good at moving with the boat and at using their rhythm. It inspired me as I buzzed along in the shed at 7.30pm with the temperature drop fast out side I felt a warm and energy coming which was a stark contrast to the days before being sick. So after a light ride this morning I got back on the ergo and increased the efforts to 10min and this time watch some of the Athens footage. The light weight four was the perfect visual as I worked to improve the speed of movement by allowing the hips to lead the drive with out loosing connection between the handle and seat. What was inspiring is the effort the light weights are obviously putting into the rowing under race pressure. It is as if they are wringing ever bit of speed out of what they do. The Danish are an obvious leader in what they have done but when you look at these crews driving to the line it seems like they are locked in a fierce battle. Each an ever inch, cm is accounted for and fought over. That is amazing stuff and makes an ergo session worthwhile. I feel like I feel off the horse a little when I got sick at the start of the week, but I am now more sure that I am ready for the next phase leading up to the World Cup in Switzerland.
